Bennie Dotie is a veteran photographer and educator who was born in Longwood, Louisiana. He holds Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. While at Louisiana Tech, he studied abroad in Rome, Italy. He continued his education in photography by attending the Nikon School of Photography in Addison, Texas.
Bennie was a staff photographer for over forty years for The Shreveport Sun, which is one of Louisiana’s oldest Black-Owned newspapers. He also worked as a contract photographer for both Ebony and Jet Magazines for many years.
Bennie has recently retired from the Caddo Parish School System and credits his beloved mother, Eliza Dotie, as being the most guiding influence in his life.
Bennie thinks photography is one of the most effective forms of communication known to humanity because he believes that photographers see more than the average person.
